Bhaath Podi

'Bhaath' in kannada means rice. I am sure you must have heard of Vangi bhaath, chow-chow bhaath, kesari bhaath etc... This podi or powder can be stored and when in mood to prepare some veggie bhaath, add this along with other ingredients & viola! its ready :)

Bhaath Podi

Ingredients
1. Dhania/ Coriander seeds - 1 tbsp
2. Channa Dal - 2 tbsp
3. Urad Dal - 2 tbsp
4. Red Chillies - 5-6
5. Peppercorns - 3-4
6. Cloves - 3-4
7. Cinammon - 1/2 inch
8. Hing - a pinch
9. Coconut/Desicated coconut (copra) - 3 tbsp
10. Oil - 1-2 tsp

Preparation Time!!
1. In a pan, add oil and once warm, add ingredients mentioned above except coconut & sauté till light brown
2. Once it turns light brown, remove off flame & cool it
3. I did not have desiccated coconut, so i added the frozen shredded coconut and sautéed in the pan till turned light brown
4. Once all ingredients are cooled, dry grind them in a blender to a semi-coarse powder & store in a air tight container

Pointers
1. You could skip coconut now and just use other ingredients and store that powder. When you plan to add the powder, you could add in coconut
2. By sauté-ing the coconut, the moisture is removed, so my guess is you could store this powder, without it getting spoilt!
3. Many variations of this bhaath powder is available, which includes Khus-khus, star anise etc. But i personally feel, inclusion of all that will give the powder more of bisibellebath powder taste & this has to be different right :D
